WORKSHOP FOCUSThe Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the number of jobs people will have by age 40 on an average is 14. This new data states that most professionals will have 3 different careers and as many as 7 in a lifetime. This increase is based on 3 key factors:
- People are less likely to remain in a specific career out of loyalty
- Computer technology provides the need for and means to obtain new skills
- Downsizing, automation and offshore enterprise is requiring career redesign
More than 40% of the people over 50 in the USA are in the process of reconsidering their careers. Reports indicate the people are considering entrepreneurial opportunities, employment closer to their children, shorter workdays, more flexibility in their schedules, and opportunities for adventure as well as volunteer service.
